We are delighted to announce that our retrofit of Victoria House has won an RIBA London Award.
The project, developed in collaboration with the workspace provider LABS Group, involved the sensitive restoration and renovation of the Grade II listed building to provide high quality contemporary workspace in the heart of Bloomsbury. The project includes an innovative approach to the provision of flexible workspace, responding to the changing ways in which we work by creating spaces ranging from individual booths, team spaces, meeting spaces, lounges as well as a bar in the epic space of the main entrance hall. Careful detailing and an elegant palette of natural and enduring materials were used to compliment and enhance the historic building fabric with the aim to create classically contemporary interiors that could withstand the test of time in their design and robustness.
The scheme sought to ensure that it can adapt to changing work and usage patterns with the minimum of intervention, pairing innovative approaches to the provision of granular MEP systems, demountable partitions, and an innovative flexible planning consent to ensure that the building can accommodate change in the future, so ensuring that the relative longevity of the fitout, whilst also minimising waste. The building also underwent an extensive systems and infrastructure upgrade to ensure to significantly reduce the operational energy requirements.
The RIBA Regional Awards celebrate great architecture across the UK, and are judged and presented locally. The process follows a series of in-person visits to the buildings by regional juries, made up of entrants’ peers and fellow RIBA members, with each comprising of a Chair, regional representative, lay assessor, sustainability expert and conservation expert.
The awards will be presented on the 24th May 2022 at a ceremony at the RIBA Headquarters at 66 Portland Place.
