Director

Tom became a Director of Hutchinson & Partners on commencement of the practice in January 2018 having previously worked at UNIT Architects from 2008 and where he became an Associate in 2015.

During this time, Tom worked and led on a broad range of projects spanning major mixed use regeneration projects, large and small scale residential projects, retail developments, and private houses as well as being the project architect on UNIT Architects’ first completed project, a £16m temporary building in Whitechapel in 2009. Tom became a key figure in the senior management team taking on responsibilities for resourcing and financial management within the practice whilst also managing projects in London and Cardiff.

Tom studied Architecture at the University of Sheffield, graduating in 2005 and qualifying as a registered architect in 2007. As well as UNIT Architects, Tom has worked for RPS Group and IDE-Architecture where he gained experience in numerous large-scale commercial and retail projects as well as private and developer led residential projects, covering all stages from feasibility to completion.

In late 2014 Tom set up UNIT Architects’ Cardiff Office following his relocation to the city . He continues to live and work in Cardiff and is now responsible for the growth of Hutchinson & Partners in Wales and the South West.

In addition to his project related work, as a Director of the practice, Tom forms part of the senior team with collective responsibility for the management of the practice.

Tom is also a Practice Links Tutor at the Welsh School of Architecture, supporting students in the first year of their Part 2M.Arch degree, where they are based in architectural practice, but at the same time are expected to complete a theoretical academic project.
