Oliver joined Hutchinson & Partners in October 2019, after completing his Master of Architecture at the University of Sheffield.
His thesis project at the Sheffield School of Architecture tackled the ongoing mass depopulation of Venice. Throughout this project, he explored how the permanent residents of Venice are being pushed out of the city by tourism and flooding, and then proposed a new development that addresses these issues by providing sustainable housing along with a centre that facilitated the construction of further housing across the Venetian lagoon.
Whilst at the Sheffield School of Architecture he was also involved in two live projects that worked with the Brussels city government, exploring how to intensify industry within the city. This involved developing several schemes that sustainably integrated industrial buildings with housing, leisure, and commercial typologies.
Before starting his Masters, Oliver worked for two years as a Part I Architectural Assistant at a medium scale practice in Northamptonshire, where he worked on a variety of projects including commercial developments, listed schools and landmark hotels. Oliver also spent six months on construction sites working as a groundworker, which greatly informed his technical approach to architecture.
