Laura Barnes

BArch MArch

Architectural Assistant Part II

Laura joined Hutchinson & Partners in November 2018, after having worked for two years at Buttress Architects in Manchester. She worked with their heritage team on projects which included the restoration and regeneration of a large historic farm complex, gaining experience in the complexity and sensitivity of dealing with buildings of historical value.

Laura received her MArch degree with merit from Kingston University in 2018. In her final year thesis she explored different social issues through the design of a City Church within East London, aiming to create an inclusive community hub. She looked at the symbolic nature of light in religion and how this is expressed in architecture, through the medium of sketching and physical model making. In addition, whilst at Kingston she was involved in a live project to design and build a material store for the university workshop, with the students being responsible for all material resourcing, technical designing and building.
