Katy joined Hutchinson & Partners in October 2020, having completed her Master of Architecture at the University of Edinburgh.
In her final year at Edinburgh, Katy’s group thesis project was nominated for the AJ Student Prize 2020. This thesis explored ‘porous’ conditions in Naples, based on Walter Benjamin’s essay on the city, investigating a constructive overwriting of urban threshold conditions to propose the regeneration of an abandoned monastery. Engaging with Neapolitan practices of commoning, the project supported the redevelopment of forgotten sites in Naples to create essential new social infrastructure and community venues. Employing an exploratory design methodology and detailed research, the project emphasised the importance of collaborative working and engagement with context and community in architectural practice.
Before starting her Masters, Katy gained Part I experience at small and large scale practices in London, most recently at Squire & Partners, where she worked on a range of commercial and residential projects.
