Hutchinson & Partners are very proud to announce that we have been selected to exhibit at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition. This year’s Architecture Room is curated by Spencer de Grey, and is conceived as a celebration of our ‘awareness of a more sustainable world’.

Our exhibit is a model, entitled Whitechapel Square: Crown of the Campanile. The model is a 1:33 scale fragment of the principal building of a significant regeneration scheme in Tower Hamlets.

The crown symbolises the principals of true sustainable urbanism on which our Whitechapel Square project is founded. The project transforms a brownfield site in the heart of Whitechapel into a mixed use scheme of homes, shops, restaurants and cafes as well as community and education facilities located next to a major public transport hub and cycleways. A third of the site is given over to public realm containing seven new public squares that provide new pedestrian connections and opens up frontages of the neighbouring buildings of the Albion Yard Brewery and the Idea Store.

The selected model formed one of seven fragments representing seven different projects of seven different scales and seven different typologies. Their purposefully simple expression and use of a single material allows the viewer to focus purely on the comparison of articulation and scale. The models formed part of an exhibition we held in June 2018 entitled ‘fragments’.

Founded in 1769, the Summer Exhibition is the world’s largest open submission art show and brings together art in all mediums, prints, paintings, film, photography, sculpture, architectural works and more, by  leading artists and household names as well as new and emerging talent.
